Cabela and Schmitt (Rich Cabela, Wayne Schmitt, Tom Schmitt)

They were just a 70’s high school garage band in small-town Nebraska, but from the very beginning creating and performing original material was important.

Tom lives in Fountain, Colorado. He works a regular job making semiconductors and plays music on his weekends.

His influences are Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Eagles, many more.

Inspired by great songwriters of decades past who also perform their own great songs, Tom pushed himself to grow and improve his skills.

When did you know that this was the right path for you?

When I started playing bass guitar I loved the feel and the sound from the very beginning!

What do you like most about what you do?

Taking a raw idea or inspiration and developing it into a song! Creating and performing harmonies that are both played and sung.

What do you most hope to accomplish with your influence?: I hope people feel good when they listen to our music! I love to create so I’m already getting great pleasure from the craft but to think that others are finding it comforting or entertaining makes it even better.

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?

Around 1976-77, I wanted to play bass but did not have one and couldn’t afford to buy one. I eventually converted a cheap old electric guitar and learned on that! Even performed with it at some high school concerts.

What do you want people to remember most about you and your career?

They seem to remember us for memorable melodies and lyrics.
