The Album…
It’s a double album with to very distinct parts. The first part is all acoustic, very intimate and personal, honest and shows my vunerability, I guess. The second half is full band, more diva! Some Latin jazz, some fab guitar and sax solos. I have had some really great reviews and it is said my album is ‘bold’. Love that! It has a huge variety on there, and you really need to listen to the whole album to get real taste of me and my music – one song just doesn’t do it!
Music business…
Wow, it’s hard. You have to be so disciplined and strong. And it’s so emotional – continual ups and downs. You need to be clear on what you want, know your craft, know the business and be extremely determined. But there are some amazing, like minded people out and if you find them, it can be inspiring!
London…
Although I have a large fan base in America through social media, I’m in London. An amazing musical environment for all styles of music – buzzing! For Jazz, Ronnie Scotts is the place to be! I do wish there were more jazz venues but the internet has filled in for that reach. I enjoy the interaction with online music lovers and have found that even things such as behind the scenes video and pictures have been fan favorites.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with….
Prince – without a doubt. He was a huge inspiration to me. So creative, so talented and just unstoppable. A musical genius.
Stevie Wonder, I think. Such a song writer. I mean, where does it get all those ideas from? And the challenges he must have faced. Wow.
27 Reasons…
In a very drunken stupor, I wrote a list of reasons why I shouldn’t pursue a guy I liked and it turned out there was a list of 27 reasons. Mentioned it to a friend the next day and she said ‘great name for a song’, so I went home that night and turned it into one. There are actually two versions of this track on the album, an acoustic one and full band version.
