I’m not sure if you mean the music business in general,
or running my particular business. I love every aspect of running the business, but I think Music today, especially country music, is severely lacking in substance. Everything is written by committee and for the almighty dollar, and that’s not what music is supposed to be about in my humble opinion. @theblindjoe

I’m not sure if you mean the music business in general,
or running my particular business. I love every aspect of running the business, but I think Music today, especially country music, is severely lacking in substance. Everything is written by committee and for the almighty dollar, and that’s not what music is supposed to be about in my humble opinion.

When I first started doing this professionally,
and for about 12 years after that, the crowds or small and the pay was very low. It’s all about perseverance though. When you love what you do as much as I do, you don’t care if you’re playing two five people or 5000 people for $5 or $500, you’re just happy to be doing what you love.

Personally, I prefer to release an entire album versus a single.
I like to sit down and listen to a full record so that I understand what the artist is trying to convey. I guess I’m old school like that.:-)

I love social media because it gives me multiple platforms
to interact with my fans on a number of different levels. I’m able to virtually take them with me on the road by uploading photos and videos when we’re on tour, inform them of upcoming new music, and most importantly talk to them one-on-one. It’s so awesome to get a comment from someone saying something like ::::”awesome job tonight man” and be able to respond right away with a thank you.

Pity Don’t Get Ya Paid is the song that I wrote for my dad.

My dad was kind of a hard ass going up, But he definitely taught us right from wrong. I remember him sitting me down when I was a kid and saying son, you’re totally blind and obviously that presents and disadvantages. You have two options in life. You can either sit around feeling sorry for yourself and never get anything accomplished, or you can take the talent god has given you and be the best person you can buy using the gift you know you have. That’s what I can try to do for the past 15 or so years with this music I make.

Sometimes writing a song for me is a long drawn out process,
but this particular song only took about five minutes to write, which is pretty unusual for me.

Michael when making this record was simply
to make hey real country record that myself and people like me would want to hear. I wanted something you would love to listen to while you’re sitting in a Honkytonk drinking beer and hanging out with your buddies, chilling out at a bonfire, or cruising down the road with your windows rolled down. Although it would be nice, I’ve never really cared about National radio play or playing big stadium shows, I just want to make real music for real people and I think we accomplished that with this record.

I currently live in a small town in Minnesota called Grand Rapids.
There really is no music scene in this town. LOL as far as something fun that’s non-music related, I’m a huge geek! I love to nerd out on computers, phones, and video games… that’s right, blind people play video games. LOL

I would love to have five minutes alone with Hank Williams
if you were still alive just to give him a hug and thank him for pretty much single-handedly inventing the best damn music in the world… country!

Today there’s a huge emphasis on being current and trendy,
especially if you want to get on the radio, but I’ve never really cared about what’s popular. As an artist, I just make music I love and hope to God that other people love it as much as I do.

Smile, your enemies hate it.
