GETTING TO KNOW FLEMING MOORE

I am ambivalent.
I realize that they aren’t making 50 year old rock stars—-my ship sailed, years ago.
I just enjoy sharing my songs with people and meeting people,
who appreciate original music. Beyond that, I don’t qualify it or quantify it.
I haven’t really thought about it.
I love it for the simple fact that people,
who would not ordinarily get a chance to hear my music, do hear it. It is rewarding when I get a retweet, along with a nice comment from Japan.
I’m not trendy and don’t worry about what the latest fad is.
I just write the songs that I am moved to write, do my best to get a good recording out there and hope that someone hears it and it has an effect on them or at least gets them thinking.
I can’t take credit for any of the struggles
that I have triumphed over in my life. I’ve I have had many extistnential crises in my life and in each there were people, who helped me to persevere. Whether it be the stroke I had at 28, the two open-heart surgeries I’ve had, my struggle with alcoholism and drug addiction or any other suffering, I’ve encountered, there has always been somebody there to help me through it. God has put people in my life where I needed them. My problem is and has always been me. I used to be willing to seek help until it was almost too late. Today I’m in recovery and my life id dependent upon people and in my faith.
I live life one day at a time with a lot of prayer,
meditation and self-observation. It’s all about the renewal of my mind and living as a new creation each day. In doing so, hopefully I think less about what others thing about me and focus more on what I can do to make my little part of the universe a better place. It’s simple, but not easy.
I would like to talk to Bruce Springsteen
to tell him how his Albums songs inspired me and to lobby him to record one of my songs lol!
I was first inspired, when I was a child around the age of 3.
My father would sing songs from his youth to me and after each song, he would say, “And then, I wrote” (he actually never wrote a single song), but in my naivety, I believed him. So at an early age, thinking I was emulating my father, I would make up songs in my head and sing them to my parents. One day, I heard “The Girl That I Marry” from Annie Get Your Gun on the radio. Believing that my father had written it, I was ecstatic, thinking that my family was going to reap tons of money. I was disappointed when my mother told me the truth, but I continued to make up songs in my head.
I was later inspired by Springsteen when I saw him live from the front row in 1978, during his Darkness on The Edge of Town tour. I bought a guitar and starting taking lessons. A few years later, I started writing songs on the guitar
End of Time
“End of Time” is about the futility of placing hope in politicians, the threat of nuclear annihilation in a world of ever increasing tribalism and the inevitability of death for us all. It’s meant to scare you into realizing that our priorities are misguided.
I recorded it at MC Sound Studios in Charleston, SC,
with my producer, Cole Collins, the 21 year old son of a childhood friend. I would lay down a guitar track, then some scratch vocals and then he’d lay down the bass and drum tracks. We would listen to a rough mix and then come with some ideas and direction. Cole ended up playing everything on them, but saxophone and acoustic guitar.
You can expect to hear lyrics that tell a story of perseverance
in the face of insurmountable obstacles, the futility of seeking joy in material possessions and a search for something to give purpose and meaning to life. Melodically you will hear the influences from Folk, Rock and Punk. If I had to call it something, it would be Americana Fusion. There are definitely some Dylan and Springsteen fingerprints on it.
I live in Summerville, SC and the music scene
is pretty dismal with the exception of a couple of venues and artists. The majority of music listeners prefer to hear cover bands that play songs like “Free Bird” and “Stairway To Heaven”. It’s so bad we call it Bummerville, instead of Summerville.
