The music business is the music business.
I have no real problem with the way things are, for me adversity is opportunity, and I think the current industry situation is pure opportunity for the independent music maker.

Music presents the full range of challenges and rewards!
Ultimately, though music is a thing which doesn’t leave me alone, so everything has to be another step on a journey. Certainly, if I stop playing or writing music, it plays constantly in my head until I do something about it.

I simply refuse to stop.
There is always another step to take, and I will always take it.

Miles Davis!
I would like a piano lesson from him. I think a five-minute music lesson from that man would fire me up for a lifetime!

I started in music a very long time ago! I kind of fell into it.
I started drumming in High School, and then found myself playing in bands and various other musical situations. One thing led to another, and I found myself writing music out of necessity. When I started to teach music in High School, I felt that I couldn’t in all conscience teach kids how to compose music without doing it myself!

“Spit Out The Sun”

It’s a commissioned cover by a local songwriter called Michael Miller.
He commissioned an album of covers of his own work and asked us to interpret this song. We had complete freedom, so I edited the song down and went for a ‘90s kind of guitar-band sound.

Well! We have an album in the works,
and it has been there for some time, while we put more focus on getting the live sound together. DateMonthYear does not operate in a conventional sense, and the compositional approach to making this particular batch of music has been different. For our past albums, there has been a lot of the “Frank Zappa” approach, where the music has been carefully notated before recording. This time, there has been more of a collaborative and organic approach- which takes time!

We live in Hamilton, New Zealand.
It’s a place where the music scene is recovering from something of a slump. Things are really starting to move again, and it’s becoming quite an eclectic place.
