GETTING TO KNOW NICK DUANE
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio

Proudest moment…
” One definition of success is, a performance or achievement that is marked by success, as by the attainment of honors.” I hadn’t played or written any music for a number of years, my life had gotten in the way and I had other interests. I had a desk top computer that I self taught myself to use and one day purchased a recording software program and installed it with the idea that I wanted to try and come up with a song. A little over a year later I received, the 2013 Runner Up for Singer-Songwriter of the Year, at the ‘Limelight Magazine Music Awards’ show.

Goal in life…
To continue to be inspired and write, to receive more appreciation and recognition from my music and to leave something behind of some worth. I’d also like to be involved with some form of music licensing.

3 ways of challenging himself…
1) Don’t always settle for the obvious choice.

2) Honor thy error as a hidden intention.

3) Don’t be put off by other’s indifference.

Biggest fear…
That the ideas and the passion would stop.

Success is…
to set a goal and give it your honest attempt and have a desired outcome.

It all began…
back in high school a good friend of mine was a guitarist, one day at his house he showed me the bass part to a Beatles song and I was hooked. Not long after I became the bass player in his band.

Rain…
is my latest release. Its yet another chapter of the on going story of the human condition. There were some sounds that I envisioned , that I wanted to get into the song, (sonically speaking). I coupled that with an idea of someone looking for their possible soul mate, something more than just a hook up.

New release…
In late Fall or early winter there will probably be an EP of some songs I’ve been recording. Id like to release a few things on a more consistant basis, time will tell. I’ll continue to release through Itunes, Amazon, CD Baby, the usual suspects.

Rhode Island…
I’ve lived most of my life in Rhode Island, I relocated to a rural community a few years back, prior to that I had lived in and around the Providence, RI area. It seems that as time has passed there are less ‘original ‘ rock venues, a sign of the times perhaps. Here in my town there are a couple of venues that have live music 1 or 2 nights a week but its nothing like it was back in the city’s hay day. I still enjoy going to flea markets for fun, one never knows what you might stumble across. It could be pop culture related, reading material, or something that you have been looking for, who knows.

The music industry…
Today’s music business isn’t like yesterday’s music business. In the old days, it was about sales today it’s about touring. With that being said, at the present time I’m a non touring musician concentrating on writing.

Social media is…
the ability to put out information and share. The social landscape constantly changes and one has to find what one is comfortable with…what works for you, it evolves, you evolve. Lately, I like Reverbnation and Twitter.

Importance of music marketing…
It’s necessary because you have to let people know your music exists, hopefully it will generate interest for some to give it a try. I’d like to attempt to become a little more visible in the coming year.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
Les Paul…a true renaissance man. Musician, inventor, song writer. The only person included in both the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and the National Inventors Hall of fame.

Music trends…
At this point in my life I have come to some realization that I can’t always be concerned with trends. I’ll continue to write what I’m feeling and hopefully there is an audience who will want to listen.

Creativity behind the music…
I find that ideas never come in any one particular way, could be a bass line, a lyric, a chord progression, etc…..Or those special times when the whole song comes all at once,(love when that happens). Like so many musicians I have a Digital Audio Workstation at home where I compose.
