GETTING TO KNOW PESSIMIST DIMEZ

One success story you are proud of is…
 making it on to “Snoop Dogg’s Underground Heat Show.” It’s one of my greatest accomplishments because Snoop Dogg has always been a sort of idle to me. I just always thought he was the man and so cool. The funny thing is, I didn’t even know Snoop had a show where he presents underground artists to the world. I got a message one day in my inbox from someone I didn’t know saying “Yo Pessimist, how did you get on Snoop Dogg’s Underground Heat?!” I was clearly confused, not knowing of the situation at all. So I google it real quick and found that I was selected for one of the episodes and was just flat out stunned. It was like hitting the lottery! It was so unreal and I still can’t believe it to this day (It’s episode 56 for those who would like to watch the show).

For fun you like to…
come up with new music lyrics, as well as experimenting with with my voice to make new sounds. I strive to reach my ultimate level each time out. Currently, there doesn’t seem to be a ceiling on how far I can go.

My over all goal for my life & career is…
to become a well known artist. I really just want my music to be heard by the masses more than anything.

I am most afraid of…
never being recognize for my talents as an artist.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
50 Cent because he’s very knowledgeable about the music business. He could give me some inside advice or his opinion on my sound, as well as what he thinks would take me to the next level, which would be a tremendous help. Also, he’s had so many hit records that have inspired me along the way, I’m sure a moment with him would change my life.

The three ways that I challenge myself are…
1) One way I challenge myself is by writing. Practicing my skills as a writer simply makes me a better writer.
2) Another way I challenge myself is by playing strategy games on my phone. I think this makes my mind sharper, along with giving me new ideas to use musically.  
3) I also challenge myself by making myself do the things I dread doing. This always make me better at the end of the day, because afterwards I’m always proud that I accomplished a task I thought I couldn’t do. 

You first started in music when you were…
8 years old. That’s when I wrote my very first rap. All I can remember from that time was me and my friend was trying to come up with some raps, then we finally came up with “The Mad Pitbull.” We just repeated the words “mad pitbull” just repeating over and over. After that I didn’t take a serious interest in music until 2005 after seeing “50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin” in theaters. I had already been a fan of 50, but the music I heard that day was a true experience and inspiration. From that day on I was inspired to give music my all.

Liberal Ideas – Facts” is about…
being an individual who’s not afraid to speaks what’s on their mind. Its about self preservation of one’s beliefs, dreams, and ideas. I wanted to invoke power into the listener as well as not to take what we read or hear at face value. I’m a firm believer that a person should always do their homework beforehand. “Go out and seek the truth” is one of my models.

There is a bit of a funny story about this song…
Maybe not “haha” funny, but anyway, I had wrote and recorded the song a few months before it was released and some how it became one of those songs that was guaranteed to sit in my music library only for the rest of eternity. I had absolutely zero intentions of releasing this song because of a very small, very minor quarrel my producer and I had about the hook. Long story short, some time passes by, and the producer hears the song again and says “Aw man that’s was hot!,” completely forgetting that we had previously argued over the same exact song. By this time I was just started up an event called “#NottaFreestyleFriday” consecutively releasing a brand new single every Friday, so “Liberal Ideas – Facts” made the cut at week two.

From your music we can expect…
tons of energy, creativity like you’ve never seen, great flows, sonics, and music that captures your mind and makes you imagine what I’m depicting. I believe my writing skills to be second to none. Out of all the musical qualities I possess, it’s the skill I’m the most confident in.

In North Philadelphia where you live, the music scene is…
pretty hectic when it comes to rappers. You can look in just about any direction and find a rapper. There’s lots of talent just lying around waiting to be discovered, if you know where to look.

The music business is…
 is becoming more user friendly. What I mean by that is that it’s getting easier and easier to just upload your music to the internet and have it self distributed and self published. It makes it much easier to be a functional independent artist without a lot of outside help. I have been able to gain a small fanbase over the internet alone on top of having my music accepted on blogs. At the same time, I have submitted tons of music submissions and majority of the time I get no response or turned down.

You overcome hurdles and pitfalls by…
believing in myself and my work. Knowing that I can always try again tomorrow is another thought that helps me move forward.

Social media is…
the best way to communicate and receive information in this technological age. I use social media every single day to stay in touch with my followers and give them updates on my latest projects. There’s a large audience that can be reach through social media with just a push of a button. I believe its truly a great platform.

Singles versus albums…
Honestly I prefer to release albums over singles. I enjoy making songs. It’s something I’m very passionate about. Whenever I write or complete a new song, I feel like it connects to another one of my song in some way. Putting together an album is like a puzzle to me. I don’t feel right releasing a song until I have other songs to fill up the puzzle. Only when all the scattered pieces finally fit together properly do I feel like I can release them in an album. Of course with singles, you can focus on the promotion of that one track, but for me it’s incomplete. I believe that the marketing strategies aren’t that different between the two. The only thing that would concern me is budget. I can tell people “Hey go check out my latest single!” just as easily as I could tell them to check out my latest album. The difference being that with the album there’s more to buy into than just getting someone to listen to a single. 

On balancing being trendy with being true to yourself…
I think people take what they hear, and if they like it enough, they’ll try to intimate it. I believe most people are wrapped up in the trends of the current music industry, but I think I have discovered a balance. I’m working on a new sound that gives you the best of both worlds-the current with the unique original style I possess. The line is very thin and you have to be careful not to go overboard and become to current.
