Mak7teen

Brandon Ward aka Mak7teen is a Sacramento Rap Artist that embraces storytelling as a means of teaching life lessons to the listeners reaching out to the open ears, killing every beat with nothing but pure content, no subliminal messages… A member of Pay$tyleMusic, Founder of #TheMusicFamily #GzUp #MMG Mak7teen’s aim is to make more than just a ripple in this gigantic ocean of good music by putting out songs that everyone can relate to…

Song name: Problems

Music Genre:: Rap

Whenever I create a song I listen to the beat and I mean really listen to it…! I’m trying to hear what the producer heard… You know, feel what he’s trying to convey…

So with ‘Problems’ it was wild cause it was created and released in September… Like, I mean,

The producer PrymeTracks created a spooky Halloween type beat called Problems and sent it to me on the 16th of September. I listened to it over and over again writing down words as they came, by the time everything was all said and done I had a complete song. <

I hop on the phone immediately and call my engineer, Emmanuel E-Moe Avery scheduled my time at AmplifiEd Studios, ran up in the booth and knocked it out but we had one dilemma.

No hook and no title (at the time)… So E-Moe and I sat around for a minute while I gathered my thoughts… I told E-Moe “I got it” & I hopped up in the booth and started going in…

That’s when Problems the beat became Problems the title of the song and it also became a song that was written to express the overall truth to almost every situation, with the intent to remind the listeners that no matter how tough we think we are and or claim to be after everything is all said and done…

We really don’t want any problems at all… What we really all want is to live, get rich and be free…

Creating problems only leads you in one direction, towards more problems and like I said in one of the verses…

“There’s only one way to solve it, so your best bet is to resolve it before things get out of hand, you’re sinking in sand from the choices you made and the games that you played”

I live in…
Sacramento California, been here since day one. I spend the majority of my time with my family my son’s and my daughter. I have 5 children so my time is spent working hard for them, day in and day out..! Especially now that one of my teens was in a bad car accident. My time is spent on getting everything situated with him and getting him back on his feet…

Who has been the most influential in your music and why?
My big brother Emmanuel E-Moe Avery has been the overall biggest and most influential person in this music that I’ve been creating, then there’s my little brother Kendall Mi$tuh G Gums who keeps me on my toes with his chopper flow, my brother Donald Don Blanco White who uses his words to inspire positive energy and the Queen of the camp my sister Jasmine iLLa Jay Butler who is a lyrical phenom that is passionate about her craft… The family that has supported me day in and out in this music, the most influential in my music is Pay$tyleMusic /TheMusicFamily their words are golden, their support is unconditional and we’re really rocking like a family!!! #TMF #P$

When did you know that this was the right path for you?
When did I know this was the right path for myself?

It’s funny you ask that…! I was 17 years old and still in high school doing talent shows with my cousins, god-brothers and friends. Trying to get the word out that we (the1st100) was talented and could rap. But it wasn’t until 8 years after that I felt like I had what it took to compete with the majors. Back then all I needed was a dope beat and a place to record now all I need is a dope marketing, advertising, and promotion team. Lol!!! It’s funny how things change the older we get…

What do you like most about what you do?
The thing I like the most about what I do is having the ability to take a word like Problems and create a masterpiece painted with words. Something that is becoming increasingly rare with all of the punchlines being used in today’s modern, metaphorical frenzy. I’m not trying to make the listener figure out what’s being said I’m saying what the listeners need to hear so that they are able to pick up the message and learn from my mistakes and or other’s mistakes that I have lived through…

What do you most hope to accomplish with your influence?
What do I most hope to accomplish with my influence?

I hope to mostly influence the wrong to do right, the listeners that gave up on hip-hop and rap to become found again like they once were when they first fell in love with the art, I hope to bring forward fresh new ears, to become their inspiration to giving their best at all times and to never give up on the goal set…

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?
The biggest obstacle in my career was catching a gun case in 2002 and going to jail for a few months. Getting out and going on the run for thirteen years, putting the street over my music career. Then one night I got pulled over and said to myself tonight is your last free night… After going court and losing my freedom again I said to myself… “That’ll never happen again.!” As the old saying goes “it’s business over bs”… I got out of jail and started focussing on my music extra tough.

What do you want people to remember most about you and your career?
What I want people to remember most about my career is that it was all independently done by independent minds, free to create as they so choose…

What are you most looking forward to this next month?
What I’m looking forward to the most this month is, going over the 25 or more songs that I’ve already done and put together another album… That’ll make album #4 but before we get there I’m thinking about making an EP and releasing a few more singles, to hold off the listeners for a few more months, I don’t think the ears are ready for another Mak7teen album just as yet..! So along with my engineer, E-Moe I will be sitting down to go over these songs and put together something for the listeners to bounce to…
