GETTING TO KNOW TY HANNAH
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio

I got into music at a young age…
My inspiration to make my mark in this business did not come from a well-known” legend, as most artists may say. It actually came from my mother, If you can imagine that. At a young age, she exposed me to the art of performing gospel music in front of an audience. The feelings I experienced as I watched the crowd go through their own emotional connections with each song was all it took for me to know that this is how I wanted to touch the world through music.

My best success story would be…
Selling my 1st physical album copy in another country. It was something I dreamed about accomplishing since I was a kid in high school, making my music mixes and giving away cassette tapes for free.  Having access to an international audience that listens and actually spends its hard earned money on my artistic creations gives me proof that my heart message is being heard and understood. THAT was a GREAT success moment for me!

My overall professional and personal goal is…
to be remembered through my works and have a lasting impact on the music culture even after I have been long gone.

I challenge myself and move forward towards my goal by…

  1. exploring different areas of music. This allows me to stay opened-minded as my tastes develop.
  2. reading self-help books on the industry, following music conferences, and attending seminars. This helps me strengthen my wisdom towards aspects of the business, which in return prepares me for obstacles that may prevent me from achieving my goals.
  3. putting myself through intense mental and physical workouts, allowing me to gain the stamina needed to tackle the important aspects of my craft.

I am currently based in Orlando, FL…
where the indie artist movement is beginning to thrive. There are tons of live shows where artists can showcase their creative works.  There are many places to go and visit; venues such as House Of Blues, The Hardrock Cafe, and CityWalk  are perfect mixtures of well-known acts and up and comers new to the music scene. One of the many fun things I like to do is visit art museums and art shows. It allows me to explore my imagination, creativity, and it gives me inspiration which helps me to fuel my art.

I LOVE social media…
simply for the fact that I was one of the first indie artists to use this type of media when it arrived and to see how much it has grown is a wonderful thing. My main challenge I experienced was finding the right people that want to do real business. There are a lot of sharks out there who are only out for their own well-being. Networking, staying well connected, and being true to my art has helped me overcome many of these challenges.

Ty Hannah the Artist of Soul R&B

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
Michael Jackson simply because he embodied what ALL artists should strive for artistically, and professionally. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING to have 5 minutes with him. Michael inspired me by the music he created and the way he delivered it.  Great music is timeless. Who wouldn’t have wanted to pick his brain and get insights from him about his creative process? THIS ICON OWNED  SONY/ATV Music Publishing, who had over 2 MILLION songs under their management!. That would be the best 5 minutes spent EVER!

You need to find a balance when trying to be trendy…
Every artist strives for balance!!! I believe that being able to deliver a message from the heart and soul supersedes trends and being current.

“Maybe I Love You” is…
a particular record that represents a platonic friendship, having one friend that is more emotionally into the other one and wants to take things to the next level while trying not to lose the friendship at the same time. During the process, there were a lot of production changes and creative conflicts.  We finally agreed on this sound and we are now very excited to share it with you and all of the listeners.

You can expect a lot from our newest album…
I feel my music will invoke real love, real relationship experiences, bringing back that pure rhythm and blues with a slight soulful edge. This album we are currently working on is titled “Exit Strategy”. Exit Strategy is just a term we came up with to say there are ways we all can get out of bad relationships and need to have a smart plan on leaving them.  With this album, I am looking forward to see it take my career to that next level. This is one of the first albums I have worked on that included so many veterans and individuals in the industry that have reached goals I’m trying to meet, which is to reach the top of Billboard and to win Grammy’s. I feel this album gives me the opportunity to realistically reach these goals. Currently, we are using digital media and social media platforms to create a strong foundation to help market this album.

The music business is…
in a new state where it allows a lot more creativity to be noticed, which is very good for up and coming artists. In my humble beginnings, I’ve experienced several setbacks that included the break up from 2 different groups and having to reinvent myself as a solo artist and still be able to thrive. Amongst the many experiences I’ve encountered, with this one alone, I was able to find multiple advantages to learn from to accomplish my music goals. By creating a solid team in my circle and surrounding myself with industry veterans, I am able to overcome many of the hurdles and pitfalls in the music business that come my way.

Releasing singles vs an album…
Being able to stay relevant and reach new and old fans is how I’m always able to keep new content coming in for my core audience.  Releasing singles for me is very important, but albums are just as important because it brings the full puzzle together. Singles are pieces to a larger puzzle, put all the pieces together and the album is created.
