“The biggest thing I know is you have to be honest with yourself. That’s what gets me over the hurdles. If I feel depressed. I ask myself, ‘why am I depressed?’ How can I deal with it the right way? When it gets down to it, it’s perspective. How you look at things affects how you feel. Once you get the solution to your challenge from the right source, you’re good to go.”-@IAmJTCotton

GETTING TO KNOW JT COTTON

Success…
to me is when you understand who you really are and what you’re supposed to do. In my life, I’ve worked more jobs than my age. What I’ve found is that within those jobs I’ve made great money, gained many relationships and experiences but they were only pit stops not my resting place. Earlier this year I came to a point where enough was enough. It became clear that my gifts (my way out) were already in me. Took a while, but I finally took that leap of faith.
Overall goal…
To build businesses and pave the way for my family and help people. Career wise I would like to travel around the world inspiring people through music and motivational speaking.

3 Ways that I challenge myself…

1) Education and better my craft
2) Network/build relationships with the right people
3)Be humble/always remain a student

Moment of Appreciation..
Although I’m presently single. This song is about how (in future tense) as a husband I would show my lady how much I love and appreciate her. I always approach recording openly in my mind. I let that spiritual connection and guidancefrom God tell me what to sing. The title “Moment Of Appreciation” was put on my heart. Took it line by line with no paper or pen. Just my heart and how I would appreciate my lady.

What to expect
The number one thing to expect is the music being from my heart. I enjoy uplifting, motivating, and inspiring people with love through my music. The special part about this record is that women need to feel and see expressions of appreciation. Whether it’s a hard day at work, a miscommunication in the relationship, or the sacrifices women make. They need to have a “Moment Of Appreciation”. After all, doesn’t everyone want to be loved and appreciated?

The music scene in New Jersey…
I’m originally from Somerset, New Jersey. Locally the music scene is more influenced by the Rutgers University college scene but in the upcoming month or so I’ll be hosting R&B events to expand more in this area.
I enjoy going to NYC. Places like The Village Underground, B.B. Kings and Walt Fraziers restaurant are great to go to. Outside of music I love watching ESPN.

The music industry…
I think more artists have a chance now independently to express themselves more and compete with bigger named artists. Especially with the help of the internet. The biggest thing I know is you have to be honest with yourself. That’s what gets me over the hurdles. If I feel depressed. I ask myself, “why am I depressed?” How can I deal with it the right way? When it gets down to it, it’s perspective. How you look at things affects how you feel. Once you get the solution to your challenge from the right source, you’re good to go.

Social media…
I like that you can reach out to anyone and everyone directly in a blink of eye. Social media itself can get you caught up if you’re not careful. So you have to make sure you’re honest with your communication and not just trying to get followers & likes.

I would like to spend 5 minutes with…
I’m going to have to cheat with two people and say Michael Jordan and Steve Harvey. The reason why is, Mr. Jordan just has that leadership, that will, that fire, that “it factor” that you just can’t explain that someone like myself needs. Mr. Harvey took a leap of faith years ago that’s just like my recent leap of faith. It’s important to learn from someone who’s been there, been through, and now is a successful living testimony.

Music trends…
I think you do have to relate to the people but how you go about it is the key part. I believe in being a leader, transforming, and setting pace. Not conforming.
