GETTING TO KNOW WINTERS END
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio

Starting out…
Well with Marissa being three years older, she had just been bought a drum-kit and started playing the drums. So, being a typical younger brother and a huge fan of Phil Collins I wanted to do the same thing and started to learn the drums at school in 2nd grade with our drum teacher Marcus Schintler (Weddings Parties Anything).

Success is…
to live a life where you have followed your dreams to the best of your abilities. I strive for my own personal success by ticking off a bucket list of things that I will be proud to tell my kids one day.

Living in Sydney…
We live in Sydney and the music scene here is rather diverse. The inner city venues have taken a hit due to new lock out laws. So, there is a lot of music venues popping up just outside the city that are doing very well. Outside of music, I personally love to spend as much time as possible at the beach body boarding.

Social media…
The thing I love most is that it is very easy to make contact with people that you never dreamed of being able to get in touch with. I think Twitter is a great example of this. One challenge I personally have to overcome is that I am a teacher by day, so I have to always be quite careful with social media content as the students often find ways to keep in the loop.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
Phil Collins as he was my original inspiration to learn the drums and I have the utmost respect for the career he has had.

“Mayfair”…
is about feeling trapped in a situation, where the only decision you can make has been determined by another’s actions. It aims to band together with its listener, and support them in a time where they need to make a choice that they never wanted to have to make. It is for all the people out there who feel trapped, and as a song, Mayfair’s dynamics aim to build that person up. As the song progresses, its dramatic dynamics increase and take the listener on a visual journey as well as an audio one, in a triumphant haze of chords lifting the listener to a new height.

Music trends…
I think in Australia, there can be an emphasis on being current and trendy, but I think as artists, Marissa and I balance this emphasis quite well. Our music has certain 80’s flavours, but we maintain an originality, which is the most important thing to us as musicians.

The future of the band…
We are about to head on the road for our first National tour of Australia so we are very excited for that and then we will be heading back into the studio to record some more music in the not so distant future.
