The most wonderful feeling is when someone tells you, “Your song changed my life!” Music is influential and one of life’s greatest gifts. GETTING TO KNOW CROWN COLONY
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
I write songs that relate to my life
or personal experiences that I know others can relate to as well. The most wonderful feeling is when someone tells you, “Your song changed my life!” Music is influential and one of life’s greatest gifts. I would love for the world to hear our songs and for them to be exposed to a much wider audience, as well as for us to grow our social media and followings.
I live in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands,
just west of Jamaica and south of Cuba, in the Caribbean. The Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory or “Crown Colony”, is made up of three islands with a population of 60,000. The music here is very diverse and eclectic with people living here from all over the globe.
I believe that if a song can rip your soul out
and make you feel something, then it deserves its time in the spotlight and to be heard.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with Paul McCartney
to watch and learn his mastery of writing songs.
There is a lot of emphasis on the next trend,
but I believe that if you write songs and stay true to who you are, you can create your own trend without trying as it will come naturally.
“I’m not a lyric writer to make statements. What I enjoy doing is making paintings with lyrics, creating colorful images. I think that’s more what entertainment and music should be.” – Chris Cornell
Anthony Verhoeven (Vocals, Guitar)
I come from a large family of musicians
so music has always been a part of my life. When I was six years old, I auditioned for the Honolulu Boys Choir in Hawaii where I performed in front of large crowds, politicians and even for the pro-bowl. This was a turning point in my life when I really started to embrace my musical and creative talents. I have always been attracted to melodies and piecing together a “story” in words that could express what I was feeling at that time through song, and so I began writing at a very young age. As a teenager I learned to play the bass and guitar and started a band called Glorified Sun. This was when I learned how to take those melodies that were in my head and construct them into songs with influences ranging from bands such as Alice‘n Chains, Sound Garden and Nirvana. I also fell in love with my father’s influences such as Electric Light Orchestra, Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles. Most recently, my band Crown Colony is being represented by legendary entertainment attorney Brian Rohan who was responsible for starting the careers of bands such as Journey, Aerosmith, Boston, Grateful Dead, Linda Perry and many more. Rohan was instantly attracted to our music and unique sound, which gave us the opportunity to record with Ex-Sony VP Michael Caplan who still works closely with us as our confidant.
The song “Other Side” is about someone who is trying to communicate
with a loved one from the other-side or afterlife. The lyrics give hope to those struggling with death and the sorrow that follows in that they are not alone and will be reunited one day with their loved ones on the “other side”. The chorus: “I’m the shadow always by your side, I’m the heartache void that beats inside. Let me go, now time to live your life, until I see you on the other side,” is a depiction of this life’s journey that we inevitably all must face.

I had originally booked the recording studio to record
one of our other songs, “Vendetta”. However, the night before the recording session, I came up with the intro riff to “Other Side” and finished writing the song in about 30 minutes. I decided to record this song acoustically and tracked the vocals the next day.
