GETTING TO KNOW JOHN NELSON

The Start…
My start in creating my own music began about 4 1/2 years ago. I wrote a song called “You Don’t Need Me Less, I Need You More” for my wife by using a piano app on my phone. I wrote the lyrics shortly after. The song sort of came to life in my head and I had some simple arrangement ideas that I wanted to try out, so I used the Garageband software that was on my Mac Book Pro. After getting wonderful compliments from my wife I was determined to write more songs. I became addicted to the song creation process from that point.

“Every Night”…
is a song about someone in a perfectly imperfect relationship. It’s basically a song about wanting to relive the special moments of a relationship over and over, for better or worse. It’s more of an upbeat song which at the time I felt like I desperately needed to write. I found myself writing more ballads than anything else and I wanted to get out of my comfort zone. Indiana Music Scene…
I was born and raised in Chicago for 24 years. I now live in NW Indiana, about 35 minutes from Chicago. The music scene in Indiana has promise with a lot of younger bands playing at local bars. Chicago obviously has a much deeper history of music, so there are many places to see great undiscovered music. I love to travel with my wife and two children. I also love architecture and eating good food, preferably al fresco.

Social media…
I love being able to discover new music that I may otherwise have never had a chance to hear. Sharing that music and trying to help those musicians gain attention is an honor as well as exciting.

Success…
