GETTING TO KNOW ZINA CANTAVE
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
Interviewing: Zina Eve Cantave
Music business…
It is challenging to enter into the music business because even if you have the talent you need the looks that can sell, the contacts, chance, the attitude and much more.
Social media…
It allows me to discover new artist and since I’m also one of them, I take advantage to be discovered to.
Challenges that you’ve had to overcome…
Yes, because I constantly have to use social media to get known. It’s like a drug because if I stop using it , I won’t be known by others as an artist.
Singles vs an album…
Talk about the differences in your marketing strategy to support your preference.
When releasing a single it’s easier to connect with the fans and the future fan because with their critics I get to know what they want to hear, what do they like about the song and what they are expecting from me. Like that as an artist I can grow and it will allow me to build my album.
I am most afraid of…
The thing that I am most afraid of is losing my capability of singing. Singing has always been a place where I can always find refuge. It is everything to me, it’s my life, so losing that it’s like ripping my heart in two.
My personal definition of success is….
For me success is when you start something and you finish it no matter what. Even if the feedback is negative, you still learn from it. Like Earvin Johnson said: “there’s winning and there’s losing and in life both will happen. What is never acceptable to me is quitting”. Even if it was difficult, just the feeling of accomplishing something is amazing. My single Everything I Feel is an accomplishment for me because I was able to write the song on my own and finish it in one day. Also, the feed backs for this song were really positive. I’m very grateful to the results because this experience made me have a step closer to my dream which is being a successful singer.
3 Ways that I challenge myself and how each one moves me forward towards my goal.
1) Practicing my singing helps me become a better singer and being capable of performing better.
2) Learning more about music helps me be a better artist the more I know the better my music will become.
3) Working out helps me stay healthy and focus on whatever I want to do. It’s not always easy to keep a consistent workout that is why it’s a challenge for me.
When I was younger…
I have always loved to sing, but I was too shy to do so in front of an audience. Around the age of 8 my father made me sing, for the first time, at my church. It helped me to overcome my fear and ever since I’ve never stop singing.
Everything I feel…
is about how most of us feel when we first fall in love. It starts with everything you do, see, hear will remind you of that special someone. Then the feelings start growing stronger until you admit to yourself that you’ve fallen in love. Honestly the way I wrote this song was really random and mostly on a feeling. As to say, when I went to the studio, everything was blank. I did not know what type of song that I wanted, the theme pf the song, the beat, the structure, if I wanted back vocals or not and etc. Everything was just blank. I was clueless. So, the producer and I started listening to other artist and playing around with instruments to see what I actually wanted. And when we found something that peek my attention, I randomly started humming a melody and then I started singing random lyrics that made sense. That is how my pre-chorus was done. For my chorus, I thought to myself, what word is powerful and meaningful enough to touch someone and make them understand this song. That is how my chorus was written and then the First chorus and second chorus came along. All this was done in one full day.
This upcoming album will mean accomplishing one of my goals…
and having one step towards my dream. What to expect from my music is the mix of everything I like about music combined together to be able to reach and touch people’s heart. I want people to be able to relate to my music and understand exactly the message that I’ll be sharing with them.
Montreal, Quebec Canada…
– I live in the west island of Montreal, Quebec Canada
– The Music scene in Montreal is pretty cool, because of the variety of culture we get to hear every type of music. Especially when some people mix those different types of music it’s really amazing and cool to hear.
– One fun thing I like to do is cooking. I mostly cook Haitian food but some time to time I learn different recipes just for fun.
