“Honestly, my biggest goal is simply to be heard. I want people to hear my music, and I’d like to make a career doing what I love. My song, ‘Goodbye’ is a song about letting go of toxic people and finding happiness within yourself.” @merrittwhitley – Kansas City

First Inspiration…
I have always been in love with music, and performing. I did my first talent show in elementary school when I was 7 years old. However, I didn’t actually start composing my own music until high school. His name was Alex, and he became one of my really good friends my freshman year. He inspired me to start writing my own music and pursuing my dream. A lot of my early songs were influenced and inspired by him. He is the reason I became a songwriter. However, music was always a part of my life from the very beginning.

“Goodbye”…
My brand new single is titled “Goodbye” and was inspired by many different people and experiences throughout my life. This particular song is essentially one big collage. Every line is about a different person in my life, or a friend’s life that ultimately led to the say outcome, which was saying goodbye. It’s a song about letting go of toxic people and finding happiness within yourself.

Kansas City Music Scene…
Music is very popular in Kansas City. There are a lot of different bars, and venues that have quite a variety of musicians. I like going to some of the local country bars and seeing new artists. However, Kansas City is also known for having incredible artists in general. In the summer, there are free country concerts down at PNL. As well as, “First Fridays” where artists and musicians come out and showcase their talent for the public. It’s an amazing experience! The streets are just lined with art and music!

Social media…
I absolutely love social media! My favorites right now to use are Instagram and Facebook. It’s cool because I can easily connect with other musicians, and make friends and fans at the same time. Twitter has been the hardest obstacle to overcome. I am still figuring out how to reach new audiences and people. However, it’s just awesome in general to have access to social media tools with mass exposure potential! I have received some cool radio opportunities, as well as just generating music exposure all over the world! That is the biggest success for me. Just allowing people everywhere to hear my music!

Success..
Honestly, my biggest goal is simply to be heard. I want people to hear my music, and I’d like to make a career doing what I love.

BIO:
It was something that started out as passion, and slowly ignited into a deep, unconditional love.
Singing, and songwriting has been an influential part of Merritt Whitley’s life since the very beginning. Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Merritt’s songs are reflections of her life, and stem from her personal experiences. When Merritt was 15 years old, she wrote a song for the very first time. She was instantly hooked into the magic of writing music, but did not share her music with anyone at first. A few years later, Merritt finally shared her gift with the world, and received an incredibly positive, and unimaginable response.
Merritt enjoys performing, and has a way of drawing her audience into her life and music. Her songs are relatable, catchy, and paint a vivid picture. Merritt thoroughly enjoys writing about love, life, and everything in between, but most of all, sharing it with others. Merritt’s musical inspirations range from artists such as Carrie Underwood, Colbie Caillat, Cassadee Pope, and Taylor Swift. Merritt is currently working with an incredibly talented producer named Larry Gann, who has worked with some of the top artists in the music industry such as Elton John, John Rich, and Tate Stevens. Merritt Whitley will be releasing an EP shortly, and it will consist of four brand new original songs.
