GETTING TO KNOW JOHN B COX
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
Music business…
It is a big business as there are so many artists and bands. It has changed a lot with technology and can seem not personable because you don’t speak to people… you message and email.
Pros and cons…
It is hard to be heard by a wide audience. While there are a lot of places to submit your music, it doesn’t mean it will be heard.
Hurdles and pitfalls…
I am doing the best I can to be positive and thankful for anyone that will believe in what I can be.
Social media…
I like that I can connect with a lot of people but it’s hard to connect with everyone when you’re busy.
Singles vs an album…
I do not have a problem with singles because they represent a specific moment. On the other hand an album is a collection of ideas that should have a good flow. I usually think in terms of albums because that’s just what I enjoy. I like to support a good group of songs. I understand that music is business so if having a single makes sense then ok.
I always think back on going to see the Boston Pops…
play when I was a kid and enjoying classical music. I found guitar through blues and classic rock and when I became a Christian I started writing music and the inspiration came to me and here I am now.
3 Ways that I challenge myself…
1) I challenge myself to keep working on guitar and writing so I can reach my goal of writing the best music people will enjoy.
2) I challenge myself to get my work outs in so I can have good energy to be successful.
3) I challenge myself to keep believing in my dreams because when it comes down to it if you don’t believe in what your dreams, no one else will either.
The Water…
The song is about the Samaritan woman in John 4:13 and how Jesus is the Living Water. Jesus is saying when we all drink of what he has to offer that we will never thirst again. We are washed in the water by the word: Jesus is the word and He washes us clean and gives a hopeful perspective on life.
I just started playing and the song came out and I just wanted to record it before I forgot it. I liked the first take and improvisation of it so I was reading more and wrote the lyrics on the fly in Garage Band.
I had been let go from my job that I had been at and was looking for jobs on line and reading the bible. So I just decided to try writing music again and go for it.
I feel like you can expect my music…
to change and grow just as I gain more experience in life and love. I want to connect with people and give hope to people that need it. I believe in the positive influence of music so I want to inspire good and people to think.
I live in Charleston, SC…
and the music scene is pretty diverse but I have just moved here a couple of months ago. Beaches and historic downtown are always beautiful. There are a lot of different music places and malls. I really enjoy going to the movies because it’s just cool experience.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
Lincoln Brewster because I really enjoy the way he handles music and faith. His guitar playing is definitely inspiring.
Emphasis on being current and trendy…
There is an emphasis there but it shouldn’t be feared in any way. It’s ok to also be a trend setter and have some classic style. I feel like you have to be you first and balance these things.
I am most afraid of… I would have to say letting family down.
My over all goal for my life & career is…
My over all goal in life is to enjoy family and friends and in my career to be give my best.
