Music business…

The music business is in an exciting place right now. No one person holds the keys to you becoming a successful artist. Because of the internet you can make, release, fund and promote music independently and no one can stop you. This means we can all find music we love and enjoy but also means everyone can share there gifts and talents with the world that would have otherwise remained unheard.

Social media..
I like that social media connects people and helps build authentic friendships and community. However, social media can be dangerous because often we present the best picture of ourselves on social media, you always post your best picture as your profile picture. This means we can easily lie to ourselves about who we are and cause us not to embrace the fullness of who we were made to be and it can often put people in a box. People are not profiles. The significance of a person is not defined by numbers of social media followers. We are all people created in the image of God and we all have significance and value.

Singles vs an album…Singles are a lot more fun to release because they are less work and a lot more focused on the one song with remixes and a video. However, they don’t always give a full picture of you are as an artist and can sometimes put you in a box or specific genre that doesn’t always do justice to your art. So my preference is albums because you can more fully express your sound and what you’re about. Especially for us as Christians it can be difficult to express our faith without people judging or bringing up negative connotations/experiences they’ve had and then dismiss your music. Therefore, we love to make albums because it helps people see the bigger picture and they can take what they like and leave what they don’t. Which therefore makes it a lot easier to market with different videos of different songs, lyric videos and promoting to a wide range of audiences.

I have always loved music…
from when i was a young kid but used to get bullied in school for singing. I nearly let my dream die but about 8 years ago i became a Christian and my faith in Jesus caused me to have confidence in my self again to show my talents to the world.

Do you find that there is to much emphasis on being current and trendy…
I think it is important to stay current and on trend, especially if you are trying to make popular music that reaches a large audience. However, it is so important to keep a cutting edge and remain unique and hold on to the things that make you that way. You don’t want to get caught in the trap of being so relevant and so current that you just blend in with everything else. Trends start because one person takes a stand and does something different, that can be tracked throughout history and can be used positively or negatively.
My personal definition of success is..
My definition of success is finishing what you originally set out to do. Often people originally set out to do something with the best of intentions and then sacrifice that thing and compromise just to have a version of success that they never set out to have. For me i set out to bring the most glory to Jesus i possibly can, change young peoples lives, and be the best husband and father i can possibly be, therefore, success for me is achieving those 3 things that i originally set out to do and i will never compromise or sacrifice that for any money or fame that the world can offer. One of my favorite success stories is of a girl who was so massively impacted by our music and our message about Jesus that it stopped her from committing suicide and self harming. She now runs a twitter page called @saynotoselfharm that has more followers than us! And everyday she is sharing her faith and helping other young people say no to self harm and suicide!

3 Ways that I challenge myself…
1) I constantly try things that i am no good at and have never done before so i adapt, grow and develop as a person.
2) I try and discipline myself to switch off from work to enjoy the things and people i hold most dear to in life.
3) I only do things that i am going to give 100% to. If i can’t give 100% to something then it is not worth doing.

Nobody But You…
We wrote the song so quickly and it just came naturally to us. I think most people can relate to this song. Truth is, we all go through times in life where we feel alone, like no one is there to help us get through difficult circumstances and we all feel like we need somebody. For me as a Christian i recognise my need for someone to walk through life with me lovingly holding my hand and showing me the way to go, for me that person is Jesus, my wife and my beautiful daughter that i have been blessed with, so when i say i don’t want Nobody But You, that is what i mean.

We hope that this new song and the new album…
inspires and encourages people to believe in themselves and find confidence in pursuing their dreams by living out their God-given potential. Of course we hope that people find faith in Jesus through the music but we are not forcing anyone to do that, we are simply sharing our perspective on life and faith and hope it inspires and encourages. It is an independent release so we will be marketing it ourselves and through some contacts we have. Anything is possible if you work hard and believe that what you have is good enough to show the world!

We are based in Manchester in England…
which has an extremely vibrant and happening music scene that has produced artists like Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, The 1975 and we are not far from where The Beatles started their music career. The history of the music scene in Manchester makes it a very inspiring place to live in and one of our favorite places to be is in the center of Manchester where you can find old school music venues and bars where new, up and coming bands are making noise!

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
If they weren’t dead i would say Steve Jobs or Martin Luther King. Both big heroes of mine who were pioneers and had a strong unshakable belief. They were not afraid to share there point of view but at the same time, particularly MLK, did it with gentleness, respect, humility and love for people.

I am most afraid of…
I used to be most afraid of failure but I realized that I have never failed a day in my life, I only found 1000 ways of how not to do it until i found the right one! So I guess now I am most afraid of not growing and not learning!
