I love the music business.
Just like everything in life, there is good and bad in all aspects but my heart is completely fulfilled being immersed in the music business and life.
Far too many to recount in the short time of this interview lol.
I’ll say this much, the pro’s outweigh the con’s every day of the week. The smallest thank you or smile because of my music can make every bad piece of an experience melt away.
I think that releasing singles is integral to setting up an EP or album.
There has to be some sort of buzz about what is coming out before the release. It’s a definitive part of my marketing strategy.
I love social media.
It is a necessary evil in todays world but I feel as though it keeps you closer to your fans. It’s a way of almost speaking to them daily. With all of the tools at musicians finger tips today it’s easy to get live performances, new sample tracks or even full singles out for feedback or release. Think about how hard it was 20 years ago before social media for music to be heard. It was either radio or live. While that was an amazing time in music, I’m appreciative that all musicians (mainstream or indie) have similar opportunities. It’s a saturated market so it makes me strive to work hard and become a better version of myself everyday.
Honestly, I try to stay away from being too current or trendy.
I just try and be myself, write like myself and sing like myself. I hope everyone enjoys it but at the end of the day I’m comfortable in my own skin and I think it comes through with every note and word.
I try my best to take everything negative and learn from it.
Life is a series of mistakes to me and I think that when you make a mistake you learn to correct it and quite possibly not make it again.
I just try and stay true to myself.
I don’t really have a recipe or guideline for my day to day, more so I realize that we have a short time on this earth and I want to invest everything I can into making every day count.
Honestly, The Rock lol.
Dwayne Johnson is one of the most driven and inspirational individuals on the planet and although 5 minutes wouldn’t be enough to pick his brain properly, the motivation that 5 minutes provided would light a rocket under my butt and get me motivated to break through barriers and conquer obstacles in my path.
I’ve always had a musical passion even as a child.
I spent a lot of my childhood In the backseat listening to the greats of country music like Merle Haggard, Garth Brooks and George Strait so there was no question where my roots grew. I didn’t actually pick up a guitar to start my journey until my last few months in the Army. I lived in Savannah, GA at the time, which is a very musician-friendly city, and one of my best friends was a musician. He inspired me to grab a guitar and sit around picking with him. From the time that I picked up the guitar it was kismet that I would never put it down. I spent hours learning and writing. From the first terribly written tune until the one I wrote today, the passion for what music is has never left me.
“Too In Love”
“Too In Love” is a song that I wrote in Nashville
while I was passing through one night. The story behind it is a pretty simple one. When I was younger I was dating a girl. At the time everything was going great but being young and ready to make mistakes, I broke up with this girl for the greener grass on the other side. It didn’t take long before I realized that I had made a huge mistake and when I went to try and patch things up she had found someone new. We’re still great friends to this day and now we both realize it was for the best.

The writing of the song was pretty simple.
Sitting around in a hotel thinking one night an old memory popped in my head and a melody followed. The pen and pad was the next step.
The recording is a much bigger story.
I traveled to Los Angeles, California to work with a producer my management had set up. I lived in Oklahoma at the time so it was quite the drive and culture shock once I got there. I fell in love with the west coast instantly and David Kidd (my producer/producedbythekidd) made my transition from mid west to west coast to recording studio very comforting. We had a great week in the studio recording and spent much of the time dancing and laughing to concept ideas for the songs. It was an amazing experience and am looking forward to recording the rest of the album with him in the very near future.
I’m hoping that when people pick up my new EP they can hear the truth coming out in the songs.
I wrote every song on the EP and they all came from my own personal journey. If people have experienced some of the same things, the songs will be familiar to them. I wanted an album people could listen to when they are happy or sad, at the beach or a house party or just driving down the highway.
Currently, I live in Tulsa, OK.
The music scene here is pretty normal compared to some of the other stops on my touring schedule. It is definitely home though. I was born and raised not too far from here so it will always have a place in my heart.
