Fashion Blogs & Building Your Platform

by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio

Alexa Chung’s second Vogue series, analyzing the Fashion Blogger. One of the most disruptive and ever changing trends in fashion over the last 10 years.

After looking back at its evolution and the key players, Chung heads off to meet Leandra Medine to find out how her blog Man Repeller went from school project to profitable business, and gets her advice for anyone looking to succeed.

One great piece of advise we can take from this interview is to trust your instincts and never sway your content for monetary reasons. For instance, don’t wear what your being paid to wear. Try to align your income strategy through collaborations with companies you trust and believe in. Develop your own products that appeal to your audience in an emotional way and give them more of what they already love receiving from you.

The real truth is that it takes a good year to know what your blog is going to be focused around. Many of your content trials as you progress will be based on what you have a passion for and what your readers want to read from you. Through this journey, you learn what works and what hasn’t, which will guide you towards a more focused strategy.

The best guidance for new bloggers, is to be mindful that you need to be able to defend every post you write, and so you therefore need to see how it fits into the overall picture. Planning your blog content is important but accept the fact that your plan will change consistently until you find your niche. Be patient. It takes a lot of hard work and persistence to develop a new business and make it successful.
