GETTING TO KNOW JAY ROECKER
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
I began singing ..
in church choir when I was a little kid…
My personal definition of success is..
My definition of success is willing a dream into reality. I did this with my album. If I died today it would be okay, apart from not having a kid yet.
My over all goal for my life & career is…
to follow my heart and live it with gusto!
My biggest challenge…
was completing my album. I found if you put in some effort every day you will get there though.
I am most afraid of…
Probably of not having a child to help grow into a successful person. But one day I plan to have a kid.
3 Ways that I challenge myself towards my goal…
1) Set Goals
2) Take Action to achieve those goals within a timeline
3) Push myself to try new things
You and Me…
It’s about that perfect love, one which I have found with my partner who happens to have the same name. He is Jay Michaels. I wrote this thinking about all the great loves who have gone before and how we shall measure up to their love in history. It was funny to have our animals shoot with us in the video. They each of different personalities of their own.
The album is titled Labor Of Love. It was a journey of self expression, a dream realized of my own original songs from the heart. You will hear various musical influences. In this album I realized my preferred sound is pop with some EDM under tones. The album has a great storytelling arc.
I live in Dallas, TX….
There are so many great live venues here. I have performed at Curtain Club, The Prophet Bar, Opening Bell to name a few in the downtown and Deep Ellum areas. There are several places to go. I am a foodie. So anwhere from Uptown, downtown, Lower Greenville, Oak Cliff and the Design District are all great places to enjoy good food and music. I enjoy traveling and do some travel blogging with my friend at gokokotravel.com
The Music business…
It is an exciting business. Though, it saddens me how difficult it is to get new music heard or even on the radio, unless you have a lot of capital.
Pros – Today you can release and own your music digitally everywhere with ease. Cons – it’s hard to break into mainstream radio.
Hurdles and pitfalls? I try every strategy. If it doesn’t work, then I start over and try something new.
I like how you can garner fans all over the world and how interactive it is.
Singles vs an album…
Singles are exciting, but there is something more cathartic about releasing an album as it’s really an entire play rather than just a scene.
Talk about the differences in your marketing strategy to support your preference. I promote both, but it’s important to promote early and to keep up excitement with different strategies.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with….
Probably Madonna. It would be great to pick her brain to see how she broke through from the clubs to the radio and so forth. I admire her story because she started from nothing and grew to be massively successful.
(Talk about why you admire or get inspired by this person)
I think you must remain current…
but you must find your own voice in that and if that voice conflicts you will be current but in your own way.
