Band Name: Joshua Flores

I’ve been singing for many years since I was very young. When I was eleven I was signed to an independent label out in Miami as a brand new recording artist. I was a part of that label for many years where I made many songs and even some music videos but none of that ended up getting released.

After a while of being fed up with empty promises and no longer wanted to be controlled, I tried to get out of my contract but I was stuck. In the end, I wasn’t released until I was 17. After that bad experience dealing with the music industry, I decided to try making music on my own terms without having to worry about mistreatment from label executives. Now I write songs and create my own music independently trying to jump start my career as a recording artist again.

Song name: I Wait
Music Genre:: R&B
This song is about waiting for someone that you can’t really have and wondering if all the trouble and heartache will be worth it in end. I wanted to branch out and make a song a little different than what I’m used to since I usually make pop songs, I’ve always wanted to write an R&B song so I figured this is the time to try something new.

I live in…
Corpus Christi, Texas where I spend most of my time doing gigs at local venues around the city. When I’m not gigging I’m in my room working on new music.

Who have been the most influencial in your music and why..
I would say my family and close friends influence my music a lot. All these life experiences I have and write about are because of them otherwise I wouldn’t have anything to say with my music. My parents both have a musical background so I grew up with their support of wanting to make music into a career. When it comes to my musical influences I would say artists like Khalid, Charlie Puth, the Weeknd, Drake, and Justin Timberlake are who I look up to when it comes to the styles of music I want to make.

When did you know that this was the right path for you?
After I left the label I took a break from making music so I could finish school and I realized that I really missed it. After I graduated I started doing gigs again and ended up writing some songs and it just felt right to me like this is what I want to do with my life.

What do you like most about what you do?
I like that I get to express myself through the songs I make, it’s help me be more outgoing and show different sides of me that most people don’t get to see.

What do you most hope to accomplish with your influence?
I hope to prove to others that you can find success in a music career independently on your own terms. People think you need some kind of advantage to catch a break but I think if you work hard enough eventually you’ll get to where you want to go with your career.

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced in your career, and how did you overcome it?
When I got out of my contract I had to start from scratch in building my career. I no longer had the funding and help from the label to make music and get my name out there. So I just started over, posting cover songs on youtube and writing songs which is something I had never really done before. I just recorded songs that were written for me in the past so I decided to make the music myself so I could finally have songs that show who I am in a way.

What do you want people to remember most about you and your career?
I just want to make music that people enjoy, I’m continuing to improve my songwriting and music production so I can make songs that everyone can relate to in some way and make it worth remembering.
