As a songwriter, I am always seeking to define myself with the music that I create. This time, I was able to mend fences and build a stronger bond with my Mother by honoring her with my work.

I feel like music is a way that I can express myself and reach out to the people who are most important to me. I’m also hoping  that someone who listens to the song will be inspired to honor and appreciate the people who mean alot to them.

Music can bring many people closer together.

Song name: Momma
Music Genre: Hip Hop/ R&B
My song is about my mother, who raised me from 2yr-10yrs old as a single mother. Everyone knows the song “Dear Momma” by Tupac, and one of my favorite songs is “Baby Momma” by Fantasia. I figured why not mix the two! I wrote it as response to Fantasia’s “Baby Momma” and flowed in the style of Tupac. Growing up, I went every where my mom went. I saw her every day struggle providing for me. I saw her everyday struggle of being a young black woman in Corporate America. Everyone says once you get out and experience life you think back and find those small jewels that only your mom can teach you. The song is my thank you. Without my mother, and the other women in my life; who taught me there are many roles a woman must play, I don’t know where I would be. The consistent prayer is much appreciated!

My next projects are really going to showcase who I am as an artist and writer. “Momma” was just to get my feet wet with the process and the industry. Now I’m ready to show what I can produce. I like to describe my style as nerd conscious.

I live in Carrolton, Texas…
which is basically Dallas. Deep Ellum (The Music City) in Dallas TX is incredible! Always open mic, new artist emerging.

I love the music business…
It’s cutthroat, but it makes you resilient. After my first couple no’s I thought I would quit, and just stick to Corporate America; but when writing and music is your passion it’s not that easy. I’ve learned that independent is the way to go, it’s always cool to have a big label back your artistry but I like being my own boss.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with….
J cole. As a similar artist looking to be conscious and mainstream he’s a defintely an inspiration. My next song that I’m releasing is a cover to “apparently”, written about my ex. It took me a long time to like Cole, she had me sit down and listen to a full album and I couldn’t get enough. Listening to his mixtapes; dedicating his writing style to memory, I was reminded why I’m a writer, and what made me chose to be an Artist again. The feeling you get when you listen to an artist track, and even though y’all live 2 separate lives be able to relate. I admire the way he’s able to educate, opiniate, and make you hype all on the same track. The first official artist King.Kidd single will be “We Are Kings”, I was inspired by the feel of J Cole’s track “Miss America”. The rawness, and honesty, and consistent hype. It’s one of my favorite songs that I’ve written so far!
