Music business…

There’s definitely no “formula” for how to make it in the music business, it happens differently for everyone. What I’ve learned is the most important thing you can do is to work hard, keep pushing and not give up, you never know what opportunity is just around the corner!

Social media…
I love social media because it gives me a chance to interact with my fans personally. I always try to respond when someone comments on a picture or messages me. I can keep them updated on my music but they also get to see what I’m doing on a daily basis, which I think is really fun.

Singles vs an album…
Releasing singles is kind of the hot thing to do right now for artists. I’m totally on board with it because you can get new music out more often that way, which fans like. I also still support releasing albums though. There’s an in depth emotional experience you have when you listen to an artist’s whole album that can’t be had when you just release a single. That being said, I think both options are good!

I am most afraid of… Living a boring life!

My personal definition of success is..
I think success is doing what it takes to do what you LOVE. So often, fear keeps us from doing what we truly want to do and I think if we are brave enough to go after our dreams, that in itself is a form of success!

I am proud that I released a full-length album…
That was always a dream of mine and I accomplished that!

My over all goal for my life & career is…
To be honest, I don’t like to set musical goals for myself. My goal is to work as hard as I can in music and I will write my story as I go ☺ My goal in life…. to be happy and content no matter my circumstances.
3 Ways that I challenge myself and how each one moves me forward towards my goal.

1) Sing everyday and write as often as I can

2) Exercise

3) Actively work at being a better person

I started singing in church when…
I was 5 or 6 and I never stopped! I’ve loved singing and performing for as long as I can remember. I started playing guitar and writing songs when I was 14 and it was at that point that I realized, “This is what I wanna do with my life.” Once I graduated high school I started getting more serious about my career in music and recorded my first album!

So Much More…
is a song about overcoming adversity in my life. I had been diagnosed with Graves Disease (a thyroid disease) shortly before I wrote the song and was going through a rough period in my life. I was dealing with my disease and also trying to break through in the music scene at the same time. This song was basically my battle cry saying that no matter what was thrown at me, I wouldn’t give up! It’s still an encouragement to me as I listen to it years later.

I just finished writing and recording my new 5 song EP…
It’s in the process of being mixed right now and will be released sometime this spring. I transitioned into a more pop sound with this EP and am really excited about it! I always dig deep from personal experiences when I write songs and I think people are really going to relate to these songs. My biggest goal is to bring inspiration and a smile to people’s faces when they listen to my music and I think this EP will do that.

I live in Portland, Oregon…
There’s an indie music scene here that leans towards folk but all styles of music are appreciated! I’ve done some local performances and have a few coming up, one being a fashion show which should be a lot of fun!

Something fun my friends and I like to do in Portland is go to Voodoo Doughnuts, a 24 hour doughnut shop in downtown Portland. They have crazy flavors like doughnuts covered with Froot Loops or doughnuts bigger than your head. It’s a must see when you come to Portland!

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
Taylor Swift. She has so much knowledge about the music industry and has always stayed true to herself, which I really respect. I’m sure she would have some great advice to give me.

I have felt pressure at times to be trendy…
with my music but at the end of the day, I’m going to write the kind of music I like and whatever category it falls into, then so be it!
